Alexey Vladimirovich Bashkirov was born on April 15, 1977, in Moscow. He graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations and has built a successful career with major international investment banks and consulting firms.
Childhood
Alexey’s early years were closely intertwined with his father’s diplomatic career, which meant that the family spent time abroad. Until he was eight, he lived first in the Netherlands and then in Sweden. Upon returning to Russia, Bashkirov continued his education in Moscow. He attended a specialized school with an intensive English program, and after eight years of study, he transferred to an institution affiliated with a financial academy—a decision that later influenced his career path. His family played a significant role in shaping his personality and academic aspirations. His mother, who has a background in chemistry, actively supported his academic interests, while his older brother, a graduate of MGIMO working in international companies, served as a role model in choosing both his university and future profession.
Interests
From an early age, Alexey demonstrated a strong passion for sports, especially hockey. As a child, he dreamed of becoming a professional hockey player, inspired by peers training at prestigious clubs such as CSKA. However, his athletic pursuits were not limited to hockey. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, he also took up fencing, swimming, and karate. A serious injury sustained during a hockey game led to surgery when he was 19, significantly curtailing his ability to pursue sports further. Despite this setback, Bashkirov’s passion for sports remains undiminished, and he continues to be a devoted supporter of CSKA.
Beyond sports, Alexey is an avid reader of scientific literature, with his latest interest focusing on physics. Eager to deepen his understanding, he began an intensive study of high school-level physics under the guidance of a private tutor—a passion sparked by reading works by the renowned physicist Richard Feynman. His intellectual pursuits also extend to literature on finance and investing. Bashkirov places great importance on learning from the lives and careers of successful investors, seeing their journeys as key insights into leadership and achievement. Among his favorite authors are Warren Buffett, Charlie Munger, and Peter Lynch, and he actively encourages young professionals to explore the biographies of financial luminaries to help shape their own professional worldviews.
Community Engagement
Alexey Bashkirov devotes significant attention to social entrepreneurship, focusing on the development of emerging entrepreneurs and mentorship. He actively participates in creating a supportive environment for youth, helping them integrate into the business community and the technology sector.
Bashkirov views his work not only through the lens of commercial success but also from the standpoint of social responsibility. His goal is to provide young talents with opportunities for professional growth and development.
He places special importance on his personal involvement in mentorship programs and on supporting young entrepreneurs during the early stages of their careers. This approach underscores his commitment to actively involving experienced business leaders in the process of shaping a new generation of entrepreneurs.
The Donum Project
Alexey Bashkirov is the founder of the charitable project “Donum,” which continues his family’s medical traditions. Raised in a family of doctors, his mother—with her background in chemistry—has always maintained a genuine interest in medicine and an unwavering dedication to helping others. This family legacy and her desire to contribute to the advancement of healthcare form the cornerstone of the project’s mission.
The “Donum” project specializes in supporting medical education by providing scholarships to young professionals, with a particular emphasis on anesthesiology. The choice of this focus is driven by Bashkirov’s understanding of the strategic importance of improving the quality of medical services and the need to support the next generation of healthcare workers in Russia.
The project’s activities aim to enhance the educational and practical conditions for young doctors, as well as to create an effective system of mentorship and professional support. Bashkirov regards investing in medical education as one of the most crucial factors in the development of society.
